When Miguel Torga lists five of the great vineyards in Douro in his classic novel Vindima, he lists Roncão first. Our quinta has been continually farmed for centuries, but we trace our roots at Kimbrel to the year 1851. This is the year when we took our modern form. It’s also the year of construction of our newest winery, where some of the best wines in the world have been grown, made, and aged on-site in Vale do Roncão every year from 1851 until 2012 – and where we are working to move production back.
Since 1851, the company has been owned by 3 families and seen various name changes. Today, we release both young wines and aged wines from our extensive cellar that showcase the skills of both our current winemakers and viticulturists and those who have made our wines in generations past.
We’ve undertaken a journey to leverage the incredible quality of Kimbrel’s vineyards and to couple them with best-in-class facilities, winemaking processes, viticulture techniques, and personnel to keep our dream going for generations to come.
Our vineyards are available to visit by appointment only. We craft tailored experiences to create unforgettable memories centered around our wines and our amazing quinta. Tastings are available in Portuguese, English, Spanish, and French. Please contact concierge@kimbrel.pt to set up an appointment.
